REMEMBER YOUR ADDRESS
by Mimi Sinclair
Insert your own address into this simple tune. Research shows
that embedding information
to be learned in a song improves one's ability to remember the
facts. Repeat the song
many times to help your child remember the words. Then practice
"taking turns" with the
adult singing the first stanza and the child singing the second.
Once this has been
mastered, try singing only the last phrase "tell me your address" to
cue the child to
sing his address. Finally, try speaking the words "tell me your
address" to cue the child
to sing the address.
Three hints to help your child be successful:
- Repeat the song many times to gain mastery.
- Make it fun! Use play to enact different situations where
they may need to tell a trusted adult their address.
- Give lots of praise to your child for correct responses.
Lyrics:
Remember your address to be safe
Then answer the question
Where do you live, my little friend,
Please tell me your address.
